Equally Well UK would like to invite you to an online event with Race Equality Foundation on Thursday 26th September 2024 about the inequalities and barriers that Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic people living with severe mental illness experience to getting a physical health check.
Race Equality Foundation have conducted a series of projects to understand in greater detail whether Black African and Caribbean people with severe mental illness (SMI) were aware of and accessing physical health checks (PHCs), an NHS intervention to detect and treat early signs of physical ill health. The work identified several barriers and challenges to the uptake of PHCs amongst Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities, including the lack of awareness and understanding of PHCs amongst staff within voluntary sector organisations.
In this webinar, Race Equality Foundation will:
- Explore findings from a new report evaluating a training package aimed to upskill and improve staff awareness and understanding of PHCs in specialist Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic organisations
- Explore barriers to getting a physical health check that Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic people living with severe mental illness experience
- Share practical steps that organisations can take to effectively communicate the significance of PHCs and encourage the uptake of their physical health check.
