The new chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, has committed to protecting the most vulnerable people. So when he announces a new budget on 17 November, we want to make sure that mental health services are protected against cuts.
Mental health care has never been more needed, with up to 10 million people estimated to need support as a direct result of the pandemic. We are already seeing these increased needs, with children’s mental health referrals up 104% and at least 1.4 million people on a waiting list for mental health support.
We are facing a crisis in the nation’s mental health. The NHS cannot address it on existing funding – let alone reduced funding.
Reducing the funding available to mental health services would be catastrophic for the nation’s mental health. So we’re calling on Jeremy Hunt to protect funding for mental health services.
